A St. Catharines man found guilty of sexual offenses against four females
will spend the next year in jail undergoing sex offender treatment.
Shawn Michael Dunn, 43, was sentenced Monday in Superior Court to 54 months in custody for incidents dating from the 1980s to 2010.
With time already served in custody plus credit, Dunn still has to serve 12 months. He was also sentenced to three years of probation.
Dunn was found guilty by a jury May 3 of sexual exploitation, sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault. The charges stemmed from incidents in 2006 and 2010 involving two girls ages 10 and 14.
Earlier this year on March 9, he was found guilty by another jury of historic charges from the 1980s, involving two women now in their 30s. Those charges included two counts of sexual assault, assault by choking and sexual interference.
Assistant Crown attorney Holly Nickel said Dunn’s sentence will be served at the Ontario Correctional Institute in Brampton, which has specialized programming for sexual offenders.
“He’s looking at additional custody and he will be able to get treatment for sexual disorders,” she said.
“That way, we are not releasing an untreated sex offender back onto the streets.”
